"When Tarentum Schools said that they needed more room for students and the library would have to move, this presented a big problem because they now had over 19,000 books and Tarentum was booming. In 1943, with 7,261 books and an operating cost of $2,279, the library moved to the First Ward School on East Ninth Avenue."Daddy" Walker, a well-known teacher from Tarentum High School who completed a six-week course at State College to prepare for his role. By November 1924, there were 1,290 members of the library, 196 of them children.Drexel Library School graduate Caroline Lauman was the first librarian and issued the first paper library card Jan.The YMCA donated 2,000 books to the new library, and Central Presbyterian Church in Tarentum donated 200 books.The Tarentum Library Association was formed March 15, 1923.
